Imperial Revisionist History
The Imperial Government is but the the most recent regime to rule the people of Helvetica. The Imperial government was formed in 1517 to stabilize the nation during the catastrophic "False Jihad" instigated by the spies and cults of the Empire of Islam. The Republic fell in a coup To Kimmelstim, who kept the trappings of the Federated Republik (the World's first) which had formed the United Cantons of Helvetica. This was the successor state to the Franconian Panarchic, which originated in the 1100's as a breakaway state from Thaery (Denmark). The Benevolent Dictator (Doge for Life) Kimmelstim did not suppress the citizens' free speech nor did he attempt change the nature of the society. The strength of the economy had long bee rooted in the open nature of the society and the freedom of its citizenry. Though the means for an effective police state was available, the will to truly enact one was not.This allowed Populists and demagogues to operate more or less openly and ultimately led to coup and civil war led by Jango Rienhold (a war hero from the defense from Islam) to "Restore the Republik".
